Meet our Lonely Hearts Club Members!!
This club is reserved for the HPC cat and dog that have been at our shelter for the longest period of time. HPC wants the adopting public to be aware of these special animals. Each pet in our care has a training program designed specifically to challenge their mind and body, keeping them comfortable and happy. Once animals are available for adoption, they stay with us until the perfect person or family comes along to adopt them. No animal is euthanized just because they have been with us too long. HPC has had a number of cats and dogs that have called our shelter their home for well over a year. This allows for volunteers and staff to give their hearts to the animals. Highlighting these wonderful animals, brings renewed attention their way.

Meet Hattie! I’m a powerful lady but very responsive to consistent leadership. If you are experienced with large dogs and want a partner on those evening runs, I’m the perfect choice. I also have a very big bark. Obedience training will be a snap. I already have the basics down. You will need to challenge my mind as well as my body. My high energy demands it. I weigh 66 pounds now and probably structurally full grown. I will fill out and muscle up as I grow and mature. I’m still a puppy at heart. Because of my strength of body and mind. I would not be a good choice for first time dog owners.***I am microchipped.

Meet Daisy! I get fed by placing my kibble in the bottom of a plastic swimming pool filled with tennis balls and plastic bottles. This forces me to use my nose and brain for great fun and games! My breed combination of Chesapeake Bay Retriever and Labrador make me a great athlete. I weigh about 46 pounds. I will need regular exercise and training, Chesapeake's are smart but strong willed. Positive training works for me. My basic obedience is solid. Consistency in my training will help me build confidence in the folks around me. I enjoy playing ball and happily toss it back to have it thrown again. If you are looking for an active friend to enjoy every part of your life, then stop in. I can't wait to meet you. Meet Clyde!! I was brought in to HPC with my siblings We were terrified of everything when we arrived. The HPC staff has been working hard with each of us giving us consistent handling and love. My siblings have all been adopted and I am still looking for my forever family. I have made lots of progress and I have found my confidence and I love people. I would prefer a quiet home that understands I am still learning and need to have a positive environment to grow and strive in. I have learned to play with toys and love to chase them. Meet Violet!! I have a very Labrador temperament. I'm very soft, loving, highly energetic and eager to please. I have a good off switch. For me, a great slow massage is the best way to spend the day. Owning a power breed brings special responsibilities. My staff will provide you with special adoption counseling. Consistent, positive training works well with my personality. Many in the general public fear power breeds, especially those that are not properly trained. I have the ability to become a fine ambassador for my breed. It will take teamwork to make that happen. You will need to get an all clear from your landlord as well as your homeowners or renters insurance company. You will find all the information you need in order to make a good decision when you are considering bringing me home. I have been micro-chipped.

Meet Melvin!! I am a social guy that loves to talk. I love to be with people all the time, I just prefer to have someone that knows how to pick up a guy like me. I was really unsure about being picked up when I arrived the staff has been working with me and I have found that I really love the attention all the time. Meet Elsie!! I came to HPC very pregnant and within just a few hours gave birth to my 5 kittens. The staff has taken great care of all of us. After I finished caring for my kittens they gave me a few weeks to recover and relax. I have now been spayed and we are all ready to find our forever homes. Meet Tanner!! I am an interesting fella, everyone that sees me says "what all is hiding in there?" Boxer is a for sure as I love to use my feet. I don't really understand tennis balls but like to pounce on them with my feet. I am a young boy that still has lots to learn about the world. If you can make my training a happy game I would love to try. Patience is going to be the key as sometimes it takes me a little while to think through the game. Meet Nora!! I am the newest member of the lonely hearts club. When I arrived at HPC I was in need of emergency medical care. I have recovered from my surgery and have gotten the all clear sign to start looking for my new home. Being a boxer mix, I am very good with my feet. I will demand attention by bouncing up with great joy. This high energy behavior has been a challenge for me to learn to control. I am hoping to find a home with experienced dog owners. I will not be a good selection for first time dog owners. Being a power breed mix calls for understanding of the extra responsibilities that come with owning us. Please check with your insurance company as well as your landlord to get clearance. Many people are afraid of power breeds. In order to respect others, training is a must. Meet Leo!! My biggest challenge in life has been finding my OFF switch. I have been a runner. Mastering “The Chill” has been tough, but learning this skill could save my life. I'm making measurable progress. Being a teenager and GSH/Lab tells you where my energy comes from. I will not be a happy dog unless I'm an indoor dog. No kennel life for me. Loving is no problem. I share it with everyone that gives me the least bit of encouragement. I will be putting on muscle and weight as I grow from my robust 59 pounds. Meet Matilda!! My story starts out sad and now I am hoping to find my happily ever after. My owner passed away and her friend took me in for a short time to help care for me. I was very unsure of my new home and new environment. She wanted me to find a great new home and people that could help me, so she brought me here to HPC. Meet Nathan! My confidence level was really down when I first arrived at HPC. But I am gradually overcoming it. The kind gentle handling that I have received is doing it's job. I love to be close to the people that are working with me. I want to cuddle right in and share the security of loving arms. I had a small surgery when I arrived. I was a stinker and removed the stitches from my leg. When I went to the vet, I presented my paw, leaned up against my person and didn't move one inch as staples replaced the stitches. All that I needed was the loving reassurance of my person. I have had my hips and knees x-rayed. They were judged very good to excellent. My basic obedience skills are good. I weigh 55 pounds. Meet Beau! I have been recuperating at the HPC for months. A telephone lineman spotted me tied up and starving to death in my backyard. My owner was very ill and has since passed. I was nothing but skin and bones. I am now a robust 60 pounds. My diet has been very closely monitored by the veterinarians. I am finally ready to find my new home. I'm a devoted, loving gentleman.
